Syringe Filters
Syringe filters are a critical sample preparation tool for removing particulates, precipitates, and biological debris from liquid samples before injection onto an HPLC or LC-MS system. A single unfiltered injection can block a column frit, damage the column bed, or introduce carry-over that affects subsequent runs — making syringe filtration one of the lowest-cost, highest-return protective steps in any chromatography workflow. Membrane material selection is as important as pore size — PVDF offers broad chemical compatibility and low protein binding for biological samples, nylon is well-suited to aqueous and mild organic matrices, PTFE is the preferred choice for aggressive organic solvents, and cellulose acetate minimizes extractables in sensitive LC-MS applications where background contamination at trace levels is a concern.
Ibis Scientific supplies syringe filters in PVDF, nylon, PTFE, cellulose acetate, and mixed cellulose ester membranes across 0.2 µm and 0.45 µm pore sizes, in 4 mm, 13 mm, 25 mm, and 33 mm housing diameters with Luer-lock inlet and Luer-slip outlet fittings suited to environmental, pharmaceutical, food safety, and general analytical laboratory filtration applications.
